This print presents a highborn connoisseur obsessing over the fine details of a gloomy landscape painting. He remains oblivious to his servant’s boredom, and the youth’s grotesque yawn mocks the principles of politeness and civility that supposedly were the hallmarks of gentleman connoisseurs.
