Pietro Antonio Martini became well known for prints like this one, broad gallery views conveying the density and scale of a specific exhibition’s hang, with a crowd milling about in the foreground. His works were popular for being of the moment, capturing an event right as it happened, and rendering it in great detail, down to the fashions being worn and the guard armed with a pike standing in the right side of the doorway.
