The Royal Exchange was 18th-century London’s center of international business, and had been since it opened in the mid-16th century. Its arcades bustled with merchants trading imported goods, as alluded to by the seated man wearing a turban at right. Bartolozzi’s print emphasizes the social nature of the place by presenting businessmen, strolling with their dogs and striking deals in the Royal Exchange’s courtyard.
