The itinerant rat catcher provided a very useful service by trapping vermin that carried disease, spoiled precious food, and destroyed shop goods. Dietrich’s rat catcher, accompanied by his rat hunting dog, calls out that he is for hire. He raises a trap with rat pelts hanging from it, and a mischievous rat sits on top of the trap.
